Shirley Ann Wingard, 71, of Clearfield died on Sunday at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born on July 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Blanche) Carns. Shirley was affiliated with the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield.
In high school, she was a proud member of the Clearfield High School Marching Band Front. She graduated in the class of 1957.
She enjoyed serving on the committee for her class reunion, which was celebrated this summer. Also while in high school, she participated in the Old Town Players and acted in the title role in “Time Out for Ginger,” with Dick Mitchell as one of the leading males and directed by Fred C. Gearhart Sr.
Shirley also loved working with her fellow classmates at the soda fountain of Cowdrick’s Drug Store. She later enjoyed working as a Tupperware representative, retail sales, newspaper route manager, and at a bonsai nursery.
Her interests included reading, especially Thomas Kinkade books. She delighted in doing puzzles and trying new recipes and foods. However, her greatest pleasure came from a wide variety of crafts.
Shirley used her talents in such areas as textiles, ceramics, paintings and wooden decorations. Many of her gifts were shared with her family and friends to enjoy. Her crafts were lovingly made and demonstrated her gifts of time and talent.
Shirley loved to share good things. Visitors to her home frequently left with food items or unique treasures selected especially for them. Her joy was finding the perfect gift to give. For her, good times were always better when shared with loved ones, especially her extended family.
Shirley loved her neighbors and neighborhood. She enjoyed their visits and was thankful for the support and help they offered her. With her neighbors in mind, she made improvements to her home and lawn so they also could take pleasure in them.
The light of Shirley’s life came from a small black furry body, her cairn terrier, Murphy. Together they shared the sunshine of her patio, the view from her picture window or a comfortable chair. “Murph-man” and Shirley were familiar sights in her neighborhood.
She is survived by a son, David A. Wingard and his wife, Shelley of
