CLEARFIELD – The Angry Bean and Ethan’s Cafe were presented with the Golden Broom Award for the month of October.

The Golden Broom Award is a peer-to-peer summer program that was initiated by the design committee of the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation, (CRC) to promote downtown storefront cleanliness.

Each month, the broom is passed from business-to-business in the Main Street District. The previous month’s winner is responsible for passing it onto the next.

Last month, the Clearfield Pharmacy & Gift Shoppe won the award for September and has passed October’s award to The Angry Bean and Ethan’s Cafe.

Darla Smay of the Clearfield Pharmacy & Gift Shoppe chose the Angry Bean and Ethan’s Cafe for October, as its exterior was neatly decorated for the fall season.

She also noted that co-owners, Kim and Thad Durant always take time to sweep their sidewalk. She was not only keeping an eye for a clean storefront, but also one that incorporated fall decorations.

Kim Durant, co-owner of Angry Bean and Ethan’s Cafe was very pleased to receive the award and was yet a little surprised at the same time. She expressed that there seems to be a “vortex” on Third Street.

And, she said all the leaves and dust usually end on their steps. She stressed that they sweep every day to keep their appearance clean and were thrilled to be recognized for their efforts.

October marks the last month of the Golden Broom Award for the year; Awards will resume again in May 2011.
