DUBOIS – DuBois City Council passed a resolution Monday night honoring Dominick Suplizio Jr. the former city fireman, council member and mayor.
Dominick Suplizio was a city council member from January 1982 until December 1992 with an interim period where he had served as mayor of DuBois for half a year beginning July 1989. Dominick Suplizio also taught Mayor Gary Gilbert and others at the fire school.
“He really took it to hear, and he taught me a lot,” said Gilbert.
Dominick Suplizio passed away Friday, and was the father of current City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio. Suplizio family members attended the meeting to thank the city’s citizens and public servants.
“On behalf of the family I thank the people. We appreciate all of the kind words,” said Herm Suplizio.
In other business, the city will also advance plans to place a parking space along Washington Avenue per a citizen’s request.
City Police are planning to have a marked police cruiser patrolling each ward the night Trick or Treating takes place this year. There had been some vandalism in the city’s parks that have recently halted, and the cruiser-per-ward worked well last year according to the City Council.
Reminders from the City Council include that the Wal-Mart Super Center will have its grand opening Oct. 13 at 7:00 a.m. There will be a second reading of the Obligation Bonds – Series 2010 at the Oct. 21 meeting where the council will also review a recommendation from the DuBois Planning Commission.
