Lady Lions host Pink Zone kickoff event before Homecoming game

University Park, Pa. — The Penn State Lady Lion basketball team will kickoff its WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State fundraising campaign with a Hoop Shoot prior to the Penn State-Illinois football game. The Hoop Shoot, which will be located outside of the Penn State Bookstore location at Beaver Stadium (near the All Sports Museum), will take place from 9-11 a.m. Members of the Lady Lions will be on hand from 10-11 a.m.

The Hoop Shoot gives fans the opportunity to shoot one free throw for $1 or shoot six free throws for $5. With a made shot, fans will win a prize and will be registered to win the grand prize of four tickets to the Pink Zone game against Northwestern on Sun., Feb. 27 and a $100 gift certificate to the Penn State Bookstore. All funds raised on Saturday will go directly to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts.

The Official 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State t-shirt will be available for purchase beginning this weekend at the Illinois football game. The adult shirts are $15 with $5 of every shirt going to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts, while the kids shirt will be $10 with $2 going to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts. This weekend, the shirts will be available outside of the Penn State Bookstore location at Beaver Stadium. Fans can purchase the shirts at all Penn State Bookstore locations and online at www.goPSUsports.com/store.

The Lady Lions will also participate in Tailgreat at the Bryce Jordan Center from 9:30-10 a.m. The team will present a check to the beneficiaries of the 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State and will also spend time interacting with fans.

Additionally, members of the Lady Lions will be walking in the Homecoming Parade Friday night as part of the Power of Pink’s representation. The Lions will be joined by members of the Power of Pink student organization, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition awareness van and Centre Concrete’s pink cement mixer. The Homecoming Parade begins at 6 p.m. and will weave its way through campus to College Avenue and will end at Rec Hall.

The 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon as the Lady Lions take on Northwestern in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network. Last year, the Lady Lions donated more than $80,000 for breast cancer causes. This year’s fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and J.C. The Lady Lions, who will face Gannon in an exhibition on Sun., Nov. 7, open their season on the road at Dayton on Fri., Nov. 12. Penn State then faces Rider in its home opener on Sun., Nov. 14. 2010-11 Lady Lion Basketball season tickets are available by calling 814-867-2557. Season tickets are $117 for adults, $52 for youth and $91 for seniors. The PNC Flex Books are available again this year for $99. The Flex Book gives fans 12 vouchers, including one for the Coaches vs. Cancer game and one for the Pink Zone game, that can be redeemed for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets in any combination.
