CLEARFIELD – Representatives from Helmbold & Stewart, Inc. visited area schools to remind students that they can help prevent home fires by distributing “Be Fire Safe” kits to be used in the classroom during Fire Safety week.  The kit helps teach students to be aware of their personal safety by using such lifesaving lessons as Stop, Drop and Roll.”

According to the NFPA, many people are complacent about smoke alarms in their homes because they already have at least one and feel adequately protected.  Motivating them to take the necessary steps toward greater home fire safety can be a challenge.  That’s why the theme of Fire Prevention Week 2010 is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!” In recognition of that week the Clearfield Fire Department is teaming up with Helmbold & Stewart Group and Lowe’s Home Improvement, to bring Home Fire Safety to the community.  “Fire Safety Saturday” will be held Oct. 9 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Lowe’s of Clearfield.  The day will include free fire prevention information, an up-close look at fire prevention equipment, refreshments and a visit from Smokey Bear!  Don’t miss out on a fun and informative day that prepares you and your children against fire.  There will also be drawings for fire safety prizes, including smoke detectors and a fire ladder.
