Verna G. Hess, 78, of Clearfield died Friday at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 11, 1932 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Scott H. and Abigail (Flegal) Hess. She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1951.
After working at various restaurants, she retired from the Children’s Aid Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Clearfield County Hymn Sing, where she recited poetry.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Mitchell, Richard and Charles.
As the last of her immediate family, she is survived by two sister-in-laws, Marylin Flegal and Joyce Hess and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is her long-time companion, Allen Abrino of Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Richard Steuernagle. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park.
