Atlantic Broadband launches Big Ten Network in Clearfield, Uniontown

Atlantic Broadband is now carrying the Big Ten Network in Uniontown and Clearfield, Pa. In Uniontown, the Big Ten Network is on channel 73, while in Clearfield, viewers can find the network on Channel 34.

The agreement comes in time for Atlantic Broadband to carry any Penn State football games that are offered exclusively on the Big Ten Network, including at least one, if not multiple Big Ten Conference games to be scheduled later in the season. In addition, there will be nearly 30 Penn State Nittany Lion and Lady Lion basketball games on the network in 2010-11 as well as Olympic sporting events.

Atlantic Broadband viewers will be able to enjoy the Big Ten Network’s exclusive slate of other PSU and Big Ten Conference sports coverage – 350 live events in all, classic games and a wide array of features on Big Ten sports, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition, the network offers live streaming of hundreds more events at BigTenNetwork.com.

"We are very pleased that all of our customers in Pennsylvania now have access to this extensive slate of Penn State and other Big Ten coverage," said Dave Dane, Atlantic Broadband Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager.

Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman agreed. "Penn State fans are among the most passionate in the Big Ten. With Coach Paterno approaching his 400th victory and excitement building for the basketball and wrestling seasons, interest is stronger than ever," he said. "We couldn’t be happier that more Atlantic Broadband customers will have access to the network."

Penn State Athletics Director Tim Curley added, "We are very pleased that more Penn Staters in Pennsylvania have access to the Big Ten Network as our fall sports teams begin to make appearances on the network. There are more than 7,000 Penn State alumni in the Clearfield and Uniontown areas, in addition to our students and staff at Penn State Fayette, and they are passionate about watching the Nittany Lions, whether it’s in person or on television."

The Big Ten Network is available to more than 75 million homes across the United States and Canada, and has agreements with more than 300 affiliates. The network is available in more than 90 percent of the homes in the eight Big Ten states and 19 of the nation’s top 20 markets.

The network, though, is not available to Armstrong Cable customers in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The network also is not carried by Blue Ridge, Adams and MetroCast Cable in Pennsylvania. A combined total of more than 35,000 Penn State alumni live in communities served by the four cable providers, in addition to thousands more fans and current Penn State students.
