CLEARFIELD – A man was taken flown to a burn unit following an explosion at Novey Recycling early Wednesday morning.

According to the Lawrence Township Police Department, an employee was cutting scrap-metal using an old 55 gallon drum for support. The heat from the cutting torch superheated the air inside the drum, causing an explosion.

Police said he was treated at the scene by emergency medical services and flown to a burn unit for treatment. It was noted that he was coherent and conversive at the scene.

Another employee was taken to Clearfield Hospital with complaints of hearing loss.
