University Park, Pa. — The Penn State Lady Lions and local businesswoman and breast cancer survivor Mimi Barash Coppersmith are teaming up to raise funds for the 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State. Proceeds from Coppersmith’s "Lunch with Mimi Live!" on Tuesday, Oct. 26 will benefit the Pink Zone at Penn State fundraising efforts.
"Lunch with Mimi Live!" takes place on Tuesday, October 26 at 11:45 a.m., at the Penn Stater. Reservations are required for the event, which is co-sponsored by Town & Gown and Kish Bank. Reservations are $30 per person and can be made by calling Fran Stevenson at Kish Bank at 861-4660 ext. 8273. The October luncheon is entitled "Women: More Bang for Your Boobs. Let’s Talk About Breast Cancer." and features Coppersmith, Dr. Connie Rogers, a professor in Penn State’s department of nutritional sciences, Dr. Rena Kass, breast cancer surgeon at Penn State Hershey and Ann Van Kuren, a breast cancer survivor.
"This is part of a series of programs to allow women to network on subject of keen importance to them," Coppersmith said. "This is the third "Lunch with Mimi Live!" that has benefitted Pink Zone over the years. Pink Zone is probably one of the most visible events in the community annually to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and will hopefully help us find a cure. There is no better way to raise money for a great cause than to have fun in the process. I think the Pink Zone inspires, energizes and refreshes all of us in terms of our potential of giving back."
The 2011 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at noon as the Lady Lions take on Northwestern in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network. Last year, the Lady Lions donated more than $80,000 for breast cancer causes. This year’s fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
