Obituary Notice: Virginia R. Sopic

Virginia Ruth Sopic, 94, of Curwensville, died Thursday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Bobbie Sopic.

Born June 16, 1916 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Anna (Cyphert) Turner.  She was a member of St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, Curwensville.

She was also active in the St. Timothy’s Church Choir, the St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society and the Curwensville Town Choir.

In addition, she was a former member of the Clearfield Choral Society, the Curwensville VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co.

Mrs. Sopic was a homemaker. Early in her working career, she had been employed in the laundry service by the Clearfield Hospital. She was also employed at the former T.J. Norris Dry Cleaning, Clearfield.

On July 6, 1946 in Clearfield, she wed Joseph Edward Sopic, whom preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2007.  In addition to her parents and a great-grandson, Isaac Sopic, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary, Ambrose “Sonny” and Philip Turner and two sisters, Kathleen Collins and Pauline Mitchell.

Mrs. Sopic is survived by five children Cecelia Wagner and her husband, Stephen of Carlisle; J. Mark Sopic and his wife, Bobbie; Frederick G. Sopic and his wife, Shirley; and James D. Sopic, all of Curwensville; and Jason Sopic and his wife, Monique of Clearfield.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Leah “Toots” Adamson of Youngstown, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 – 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville. From the funeral home on Monday, a funeral procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society at 3 p.m. Sunday. A Scripture Vigil Services will then be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Both will be held at the funeral home.
