Lt. Col. John Radzieta of Roswell and formerly of College Park died Wednesday.
Mr. Radzieta served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. He was first a navigator in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, where he earned the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He eventually served as a squadron commander of Titan Missiles at the Little Rock Air Force Base.
After World War II, he managed coal mines in his hometown of Curwensville. While in the Air Force, he acted in various capacities at bases, including James Connally in Waco TX, Hickam in Honolulu, HI, Selfridge in Mount Clemens, MI and Little Rock in Jacksonville, AR. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Mr. Radzieta was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Harmon Radzieta, who was formerly of Camellia, GA. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Carl Radzieta.
He is survived by three sons, John Radzieta and his wife, Connie of Roswell, Ron Radzieta and his partner, Peg Young of Golden, CO and David Radzieta and his wife, Denise of Hueytown, AL and two daughters, Donna Minor and her husband, Steve of Grants Pass, OR and Susan Young and her husband, Jack of Louisville, KY.
He is survived by four grandchildren, Cpt. Joseph Minor of Huntsville, AL; Brant Minor of Grants Pass, OR; Nathaniel Parker of Troy, AL; and Andrew Parker of Hueytown, AL. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann Witherow of Clearfield and Marcella Kavelak of Delmont and one sister-in-law, Louise Radzieta of Grampian.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, with the Chaplain Michael Mullink officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory, Fairburn.
