Commissioners Amend Clearfield County Comprehensive Plan

CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday, the Clearfield County Commissioners amended the county’s comprehensive plan to include both the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Greenways Plan and the Pennsylvania Wilds Planning Team Study and Design Guide.

During the public hearing, Jodi Brennan, planning director, summarized both of the additions to the plan.  She said the six-county North Central Region is “rich” with tourism and recreation opportunities.

Brennan said they would be in a better position to connect all the “hubs and spokes” with the inclusion of the regional greenways plan. Further, she explained that the river and Rails to Trails were examples of the county’s “spokes.” She noted that the “hubs” were the individual communities.

With the implementation of the regional greenways plan, there would be potential to link the natural assets of the communities. As a result, it would offer recreation groups a method for which to maintain an “inventory” of those assets, she said.

Brennan recommended they also include the PA Wilds Planning Team Study and Design Guide. She explained that communities possess specific characteristics, such as Clearfield’s Victorian district.

However, she said the team study and design guide would help preserve a community’s identity. She said it would guide contractors and developers as to how to do so while also improving and strengthening the community.

Brennan indicated the recommendations have been open for public review. She said the Clearfield County Planning and Development Commission held a public meeting Aug. 16 and didn’t receive any public comments.

No public comments were received by the commissioners.
