STATE COLLEGE — The Clearfield boy’s and girl’s cross country teams competed at the Harry Groves Spike Shoe Invitational on Saturday at Penn State University.
The girls placed a respectable 12th out of 20 teams while the boys placed 16th out of 18 teams.
Top finishers for each squad were Johann Ryan who placed 39th overall for the girls and Adam Jury who placed 74th for the boys.
The experienced runners achieved some of their best times on the young season.
For that reason Head coach John Jacob was encouraged by his team’s results and noted that he, “…was pleased with the way Johann and Julianna (Melgard) raced. Each runner has a different style of running and they were both able to use their racing strategies to their fullest advantage.”
Despite the current times on the boy’s side, Jacob was equally pleased and noted that, ” Adam and Alec (Coble) have been consistently decreasing their times throughout the season, with Adam closing in on the 18 minute mark.”
As for the rookies on the squad, Jacob added, “Andrew Hill and Caleb Bass are having exceptional seasons in their first year of running.”
