Walter M. “Sonny” McConnell, 73, of Falls Creek died Saturday at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born on May 21, 1937 in Beechwoods, he was the son of the late John and Edna (Irvin) McConnell. He attended the DuBois Church of God and had served with the United States Army Reserves.
Mr. McConnell was a member of the Falls Creek Eagles-Aerie # 960, the DuBois Veterans of Foreign Wars and the “O” Club.
He was retired from Veolia after many years of service there. He loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and dogs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon J. Pearce, whom he married on April 27, 1958 and who died on March 1, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his son, John J. McConnell on Aug. 29, 2009.
He is survived by his two children, Daniel P. McConnell and wife, Darlene of DuBois and Cindy J. Homan and her husband, Keith of Falls Creek; and two brothers, Ronald McConnell and wife, Karen of Falls Creek and Bruce McConnell and wife, Evelyn of Reynoldsville.
In addition, he is survived by eight great-grandchildren; five grandchildren, Joshua McConnell, Dustin Perrin, Michele Sherwood, Caleb Bullers and Carly Homan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McConnell left behind his three dogs, Dino, Bailey and Petie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the
Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc., 142 W. Long Avenue, DuBois. Interment will follow at the Beechwoods Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
