SHAWVILLE – PennDOT expects repair work on the Shawville Truss Bridge to be finished by the end of the day Sept. 13. The bridge will be re-opened to traffic at that time.
The bridge spans the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on state Route 970 in Shawville, Clearfield County. It has been closed for repairs since Aug. 10. The bridge is being re-opened a couple weeks ahead of schedule.
A detour using Interstate 80 and SR 879 has been in place during the closure. Once the bridge is re-opened, PennDOT will lift the detour. Final work to re-open the bridge could be delayed by weather.
Repair work included concrete and substructure repairs and bridge painting. L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, N.Y. was the contractor on the job. This repair work was part of a $4.1 million contract for 27 bridges in Clearfield, Elk, McKean and Potter counties.
PennDOT thanks area drivers for their patience during the closure and detour. PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
