HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said a recognition ceremony for local Vietnam War veterans will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Janesville VFW.

“Our Vietnam War veterans have never been adequately appreciated or thanked for their selfless service on behalf of America,” said George, a World War II era veteran. “It is my hope that this ceremony will help to repay them for their courage, sacrifices and dedication.”

Local Vietnam War veterans, their friends and relatives may pick up registration forms at George’s district office, 275 Spring St., Houtzdale, or by calling the Harrisburg office toll free at 1-866 354-0890. Needed are the veteran’s name, rank, and branch of service, time of service, as well as addresses and phone numbers.

The registration deadline is Sept. 17. The Oct. 2 ceremony at the Stephen Kandrach Post 6321, 291 Veterans St., Smithmill, PA 16680, will include medal presentations, tributes and dinner. Special accommodations may be arranged, and inquiries answered, by calling the Harrisburg office.

Family members are urged to attend and may accept an award on behalf of a Vietnam War veteran of the 74th Legislative District, which encompasses all of Clearfield County except for DuBois, Troutville and Brady, Huston, Sandy and Union townships.

“I invite Vietnam War veterans and their families and urge them to sign up for the ceremony and dinner,” said George, who noted he has obtained the names of many district residents who have Vietnam War-related service. “However, I would not want to miss anyone deserving to be honored.”
