Lois “Beryl” Rowles, 86 of Clearfield, died peacefully at her home on Aug. 28, 2010.
Born on Oct. 23, 1923 in DuBois, she was a daughter of William L. and Twilla Mae (Waite) Dixon.
Mrs. Rowles was a graduate of Clearfield high School in 1941. After high school, she began working for the Bell Telephone Company in Clearfield as a switchboard operator, which she did off and on until 1975.
She met and fell in love with Harry M. “Merv” Rowles and they were married on September 20, 1946 in Clearfield.
Mrs. Rowles was a lifelong member of West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield. She volunteered for many church and community events. She also enjoyed sharing time with her many friends in the card clubs that she had belonged to, along with her outings with the “Bell Girls”.
She is survived by two sons: William “Bill” Rowles of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and his former wife Julie Rowles of Gorham, ME and David Rowles and his wife Shari of South Carolina; two grandsons: Jarred Rowles of Gorham, ME and Jordan Rowles of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; a granddaughter, Kristin (Rowles) Wing of Gorham, ME; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rowles is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Merv; a sister, June Gonterro and brothers, Sgt. William Dixon and Donald “Max” Dixon.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the West Side United Methodist Church with Rev. Jolene Willis officiating.
A fellowship luncheon will follow immediately after the service. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.
