Police Identify Victim in Fatal I-80 Accident

PINE TOWNSHIP – A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 45-year-old Flushing, NY man on Interstate 80 at mile marker 114 eastbound in Pike Township on Monday afternoon.

This morning, the Clearfield-based state police reported that passenger Jun Wu, 45, of Flushing, NY was ejected from a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country Van. Wu died at the accident scene, police said.

Police also indicated that six other occupants have been treated for their injuries at the Clearfield and Altoona Hospitals.

According to the initial accident report, operator Jiawel Zhao, 55, of Flushing, NY, was traveling east in the left lane on I-80 at approximately 1:10 p.m. Monday. For unknown reasons, he abruptly swerved to the left.

Police said that Zhao subsequently lost control of his vehicle. He then collided with an embankment in the center median, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Lawrence Township Fire Department, Clearfield Emergency Medical Services and Andy Ross Towing.
