Obituary Notice: Ruth E. Gibson

Ruth Evelyn Gibson, 88 of Clearfield, PA and formerly of Punxsutawney, PA, passed away Aug. 16, 2010 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield, PA.

Born on April 24, 1922 in Punxsutawney, PA, she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Minnie Idella (Smith) Hawk.

Mrs. Gibson had sold Stanley products with her husband for several years and had also been employed by Standard Pennant in Big Run, PA. She was a music teacher at Spotts Music and was an avid teacher of guitar and piano for many years.

She was a member of the Happy Notes Musical Group, who sang at various social events and nursing home visits.

Mrs. Gibson was a member of the Woodland Avenue Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, PA and had most recently attended The Presbyterian Church in Clearfield, PA.

She is survived by a daughter in-law, Pamela S. Gibson of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Scott A. Gibson and his wife Melinda of Coal Center, PA, Adam K.Gibson and his wife Kristi of Kylertown, Andrew N. Gibson and his wife Tina of Clearfield, PA, Kristin A. (Clair) Wriglesworth of Clearfield and Kimberly D. Durant and her husband Thad of Clearfield; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille North of Big Run, PA; a brother, Donald Hawk and his wife Martha of Punxsutawney, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gibson is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin M. Gibson, whom she married on June 1, 1944 at her parents home in Punxsutawney, PA and who died on May 23, 1990; a son, Edwin A. Gibson and a grandson, Christopher Dale Gibson.

Funeral services will be held on Aug. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Simcox Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Clearfield, PA with Rev. Robert Mellgard and Mr. Richard B. Barkley co-officiating. Interment will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville, PA.

Friends will be received in the Simcox Chapel of the church from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
