STATE COLLEGE – Traffic monitoring improvements will be installed in four Centre County municipalities next week. The upgrades will be placed along state Route 3014 (North Atherton Street). Work will be done Aug. 18, and Aug. 19, in the 1.16-mile section of North Atherton Street.
Seventeen traffic signals will be linked in Patton, Ferguson and College townships as well as in State College Borough. The contractor will place two Dynamic Message Signs along the roadway.
To allow for the upgrades, one lane of westbound North Atherton Street will be closed in the area of Rolling Ridge Drive. The restriction begins after 9 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday and continues throughout the day.
In addition to connecting signals and installing signs, the contractor will put in a closed-circuit television camera system, fiber optic cable and other components to monitor traffic flow. Guide rails and other miscellaneous construction are also included in the contract.
Wellington Power Corporation of Pittsburgh is the contractor on the $1.4 million project.
