Nine Teams Commit to Clearfield “Past Your Prime” Softball Tourney

CLEARFIELD – At least nine teams will be playing in the 16th annual Clearfield 40-and-Over “Past Your Prime” Modified Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament Aug. 14 and 15.

Committee members, who finalized preparations at a meeting earlier this week, are hoping for a 10th entry to match last year’s record total. The deadline to commit is Aug. 2.

Missing because of a conflict with another tournament will be Mechanicsburg’s Aqua Specialists, who shared the 2008 title with Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub of Clearfield in their initial appearance and then outscored four opponents 47-9 last year to win the championship outright.

Returnees, along with Denny’s, include former champions Potter’s Bricklayers (7) of Philipsburg and the Meatheads (4) and Buster’s Sports Bar (1) of Clearfield.

Rounding out the field will be Bob Boob’s Garage, Siegel Engraving and Krebs Moving & Storage of Clearfield, the Emporium Used-To-Be-Goods and the Bedford Over-The-Hillbillies.

Most of the proceeds from the concession stand and various fund-raisers will go to the Clearfield-based William L. Dixon Detachment of the U.S. Marine Corps League for its annual “Toys-for-Tots” program.

The Bucky Strunk Memorial Field concession stand will be in operation throughout the double-elimination tourney with hot food and cold beverages donated by area businesses.

Some games will be played at the Lawrence Township Rec Park Field.

Pairings and times will be determined at a meeting Monday, Aug. 9, at Buster’s.
