Habitat for Humanity Plans to Build Home, Meeting Tonight for Interested Families

CLEARFIELD – Habitat for Humanity has plans to provide a new home in Clearfield and is looking for a family to benefit from this new project. The home will be a two-story energy efficient home with three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and two bathrooms. It will also come with appliances, including a stove, icebox, washer, and dryer.

With no down payment and a zero percent 20 year mortgage, the homeowner will pay about $400 a month, including taxes and insurance. Because a high percentage of building materials are donated along with all the labor and land used for the home, the cost will be significantly reduced for the new owner. The value of the home itself however is not reduced, and falls between $70,000 and $80,000 dollars. This allows the family to build their financial wellbeing and have the opportunity to profit from the eventual sale of their home. In return, they are asked to volunteer 400 hours for Habitat for Humanity, which can be served in a number of ways, including selling food, stuffing envelopes, or volunteering their time in other ways.

To be eligible a family must be with 125 percent?of the poverty level (about S25, 000 for a family of four). Interested families are encouraged to attend a meeting that will be held July 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center. According to Gae Kane, everyone is encouraged to attend even if they feel they may not be qualified. Habitat for Humanity is willing to work with all interested families, helping them obtain the dream of home ownership. Applications can be picked up at the meeting and families with further questions can contact Gae at 592-4326.
