Obituary Notice: Orvis B. ‘Biff’ Fletcher

Orvis B.’Biff’ Fletcher, 90, of Clearfield died Tuesday at the Clearfield Hospital.

Born on Aug. 21, 1919 in Clearfield, he was the son of Hoad and Adda (Carr) Fletcher. He was a lifetime member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield. He was a member of the John Lewis Shade, Post #6 of the American Legion, Clearfield and the Old Town Sportsmen’s Club.

He was a veteran of World War II and in the 22nd Armored Engineers 5th Armored Division of the United States Army. He experienced a great joy when he visited the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. with his family.

Mr. Fletcher was a retired roofer for J. Maxwell English of Sandy Ridge and had also been employed by Sterling Roofing and Soult Lumber Company.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and both a lifetime and the oldest member of the Fletcher Camp.

He taught his daughters and their families about the outdoors and enjoyed time spent at camp, especially ice skating and sled riding.

Mr. Fletcher enjoyed watching his flowers and tomato plants grow and kept his feeders full for the birds and squirrels in his yard.

On April 19, 1948, he married Dorothy J. (Green) Fletcher. She preceded him in death on Feb, 14, 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, five brothers, Veryl Fletcher, Robert Fletcher, Marl Fletcher, Fred Fletcher and Odell Fletcher and a sister, Amy Danver.

He is survived by four daughters, Sharon S. Hawkins and her husband, Bill of Madera; Kathy J. Wilson and her husband, Herb of Clearfield; Bonnie K.

Young and her husband, Randy of Clearfield; and Terry L. Catalano and her husband, Mike of Clearfield; a sister, Wilda Selfridge of Clearfield; and a brother, Kenneth Fletcher of Colfax, CA. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He’s additionally survived by 11 grandchildren, Jennifer DuFour, Willie and Andy Hawkins, Ryan and Nathan Wilson, Valerie Swales, Alyson Young, Michelle and Ashlee Kavelak and Nicole and Joseph Larson.

Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren Greg and Hailey DuFour, Fletcher and Emily Wilson, Denis and
Elli Swales, Ayden Waugh and Andrew Larson.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Rodger J. Gorton officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 4 – 9 p.m. Thursday and on the day of services from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at the funeral home.

Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Clearfield Honor Guard with members from the American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Michael F. Sickes Post #1785.
