CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County will receive a $20,000 grant for recycling more than 2,000 tons of refuse, announced state Sen. John N. Wozniak.

“Recycling is a way that everyone can contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment and a better world for our children,” Wozniak said. “This grant and the effort it rewards are investments in our future.”

The grant was awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection under its Recycling Performance Grant Program, started in 1988.  The program provides incentive to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and promote economic growth in the commonwealth through job creation and market expansion. The grant is based on 2,252 tons of refuse recycled in Clearfield County in 2008.

Covington Township will also receive a grant of $388 to cover nearly half the expense of performing sewage enforcement provisions under state environmental law.
