Despite Tough Financial Times, DuBois Public Library Doing Well

DUBOIS – Despite tough fiscal times the Dubois Public Library is thriving thanks in part to the City of DuBois.

Becky McTavish, the director of the DuBois Public Library, presented a letter to the city council outlining their success over the past year.  McTavish, who has been serving as the director for the past 11 months, thanked the city for all they have done to help the library in a time when the state cut their budget.

port of our library,” said McTavish.

The city paid for a new roof for the library which has stopped the leaking they previously experienced.  “All the books are safe and dry,” McTavish noted.

City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio mentioned the summer reading program that is tied into the community pool which McTavish further explained.  The kids get coupons from the library for reading 750 minutes.  The coupons offer a discounted rate for a pool pass.

McTavish also said that the library has been able to use the city park for nine programs so far this summer.  Most recently they had an entertainer in the ampitheater in which over a hundred children and more than sixty adults attended.

Also in the letter were some highlights of how the library has improved over the past year to include:

New signage to promote hours of operation and to increase the visibility of the library.

New chairs and tables, new seating areas, shelving, and upgrading of old shelves were made possible by funds donated by the estate of Robert Gusherowsi.

A seventh public internet computer was added.

Loan period has been extended from two weeks to three to allow patrons to keep materials longer.
