Peter Barto, 86, of Janesville, passed away at 1:05 AM, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

Born on April 17, 1924 in Janesville, a son of the late Aniceto and Massemina (Shamanna) Barto.

Mr. Barto served as a Private in the U.S. Army in WW II with Company H 121st Infantry Regiment in Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.

He retired in 1987 from the former Vipond Construction Co. of Altoona. He was a mechanic and welder of heavy equipment and had also work as a coalminer and on road construction.

Mr. Barto was member of the Janesville United Methodist Church; the Operating Engineers Union; Janesville V.F.W. Stephen Kandrach Post #6321, Smithmill, and the Houtzdale MOOSE Lodge.

He is served by his wife of 62 years, Betty J. (Phillips) Barto. They were married on April 20, 1948 in the Houtzdale Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Barto is survived by a son and two daughters, Rev. Ronald Eugene Barto and his wife Barbara of Johnstown; Victoria Williams and her husband Keith of South Park and Mary Elizabeth Tauber and her husband Joseph of Carmel, IN.

He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Matthew Williams, Kristin Williams, Brigette Barto, Kyle Barto, Angela Tauber and Abigail Tauber.

A sister and brother also survives; Cora Duke of Broadview Heights, OH and Gene Raponi and his wife Betty Lou of Cleveland, OH.

Mr. Barto was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and six brothers; Alaska McAlkich, Palmer Barto, Irma Leparuta, Elizabeth Bungo, Carrie Hollich, Lena Giambalvo, Anna Cook , Albert Barto, Pete Barto, Norge Barto, Rudolph Barto, Raymond Barto and Joseph Barto.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 13 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday, July 14 from 9-11 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, at 11:00 AM in the Krusie Funeral Home, Ramey at Kruise Funeral Home, Inc., Ramey, with Pastor Dennis L. McCracken officiating.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey. Family request memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society 26 South Second St. Clearfield, PA 16830. Condolences may be sent to: condolences@kruisefuneralhome.com.
