Obituary Notice: Alfred Timko

Alfred Timko, 66 of Philipsburg, passed away on July 6, 2010 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Perow) Timko.

He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run, where he was an usher and in charge of hte church cemetery care; he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War between 1961 and 1965; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council #8701, serving as Grand Knight from 2008-present; he was a member and assistant treasurer of the Moshannon Valley Joint Sewer Authority, representing Morris Township; he was a member and former chairman of the Morris Township Planning Commission and was formerly on the advisory council of the Clearfield Area Agency on Aging.

He had been employed for a short time at Target Sportswear in Clearfield. He then worked for Corning-Asahi in State College, retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. While at Corning-Asahi he was a member of the recreation committee and the hazmat unit.

On Sept. 16, 1972 at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run, he married the former Kathleen Zackey, who survives at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers George and Steve Timko; and sister Margaret Kopchik Volk.

He is survived by daughter Michelle Massung and her husband Robert of Philipsburg and Melissa Timko of RD Philipsburg; sister Helen Timko of Pardee, RD Philipsburg and Betty Vavreck and her husband Ben of Hawk Run; and grandchildren Jamey and Sam Massung of Philipsburg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 10 at 10 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run, with the Rev. Robert Horgas officiating. Burial will be at the Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Hawk Run. Visitation will be on July 9 from 5-8 p.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.

A vigil service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Horgas in addition to the recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. by the Rosary Society and Knights of Columbus, both on Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded by Members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
