HARRISBURG – Legislation that would complete the agreed-to transfer of the Rockview Prison property to the state Game Commission, Penn State, Fish and Boat Commission and Benner Township was unanimously approved by the Senate, bringing the project closer to completion, according to Sen. Jake Corman (R-34).
Corman added an amendment with the agreed-to language introduced by State Reps. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, and Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte to House Bill 2275, addressing future conservation on the property and spelling out how much land each group would receive, and what they would pay for the land. He worked closely with both members of the House to ensure that issue was addressed promptly.
“This is a very important issue to the people of Centre County and I was pleased that we were able to amend the language into a bill that was further along in the process,” Corman said. “Due to the lack of legislative sessions days left in June, amending the bill in the Senate allowed us to get the agreement enacted without delay.”
The legislation will now move to the House for concurrence and then onto the Governor’s desk to be passed into law. Corman said the process should be completed by the end of the week.
