Obituary Notice: Cyrus A. Weisgarber

Cyrus A. ‘Cy’ Weisgerber,   93 of Frenchville died on June 25, 2010 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on July 21, 1916 in Clearfield, a son of the late Cyrus Aaron and Hannah (Jury) Weisgerber.

Mr. Weisgerber was employed by Hercules Powder Company, Wilmington, Delaware, where he received several patents for chemical discoveries made during his research.

A graduate of Clearfield High School, Mr. Weisgerber received a Bachelor of Science degree from Franklin and Marshall College. In addition, he received his Masters and PhD degrees from the Pennsylvania State University where he developed methods to produce penicillin for the troops in WWII.

He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity and the American Chemical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Woods) Weisgerber, whom he wed June 6, 1944,

Four grandsons:

      Adam C. Weisgerber                                            Boulder, CO

      Alexander R. Weisgerber and wife Anne             Chicago, IL

      Aaron Cyrus Weisgerber and wife Rachel           Ripon, CA

      William Aaron Weisgerber and wife Naomi        Milwaukee, WI

Six great grandchildren:

And a half-sister sister:

      Betty Jean Edsall                                                   Dunkirk, MD

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Maxine Gretchen Weisgerber.

Graveside services will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating.  Interment will follow in the cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Avenue, Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.
