Clearfield Legion Upended 9-4 by Brookville

BROOKVILLE – Brookville escaped last place in the Jefferson County Legion League by coming from behind with six runs in the second innng and going on to hand Clearfield a 9-4 setback at McKinley Field Monday evening.
 
The American Legion Post 6 Chiefs had 10 hits off of two Brookville pitchers but stranded 11 runners.
 
Dakota Singleton worked five innings for his first JCL win, holding the Chiefs to three runs despite giving up eight hits, walking four and hitting one. Reliever Jared Heschke allowed two hits and one unearned run in the final two frames.
 
Clearfield remained in second place at 8-3 because Punxsutawney was edged 5-4 by front-running DuBois.
 
The Chiefs tallied single runs in the first three innings. Earning the RBIs were Andrew Redden with a sacrifice fly and Jarrett Fulmer and Tyler Jacobson with singles.
 
Brookville chased Jacobson and padded its lead against Derrick Snyder in the second inning, when Clearfield committed three of its five errors. Ethan Harmon and Zane Hackett had two of the five hits in the rally and drove in two runs apiece.
 
The winners worked double steals for two runs off Snyder in the third and made it 9-3 on back-to-back doubles by Heschke and Hackett in the fourth.
 
Ronny Ogden then relieved Snyder and set down all nine batters he faced, striking out five, in an impressive three-inning stint.
 
Ogden also drove in the final Chiefs run with a single after Redden singled and moved into scoring position on an error.
 
Timchak singled twice and Corey Bookhamer doubled for Clearfield.
 
For Brookville (2-9, 2-8 JCL), Harmon ripped three hits while Heschke and Hackett each had two.
 
Second place will be on the line when the Chiefs, 9-3 overall, host Punxsutawney Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Bison Sports Complex.
