Lawrence G. Fitzpatrick, age 87, formerly of Olive Ave. in DuBois, PA died June 15, 2010 at Christ the King Manor.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1923 in DuBois, PA. He was the son of George and Velma (McMaster) Fitzpatrick.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant for the Airborne division in the European Theater during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the Silver Star and various other military awards.
On Nov., 11, 1946, he married June D. (DeWyer) Fitzpatrick. She preceded him in death in August of 2004.
He retired from Penelec. Previous to that, he worked in the family sheet metal business for many years.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. He was also a past member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 in DuBois, PA. He loved Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.
He is survived by his daughter: Wendy Hanslovan of DuBois, PA, three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Rose Marie) Rafferty of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Keith (Marion) Smith of Rockville, MD, and Mrs. Eugene (Rita) Martini of DuBois, PA, two brothers, Mr. James Fitzpatrick of DuBois, PA and Mr. Earl Fitzpatrick of Mechanicsburg, PA., and two granddaughters, Monica Hanslovan of Pittsburgh, PA and Lara Fitzpatrick of DuBois, PA.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Fitzpatrick and two sisters, Betty Cavalier and Barbara Fitzpatrick.
Visitation will be held on June 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. from the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the funeral home.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service on June 17 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 17 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
