Lois M. Matthew, 81 of Clearfield, PA, passed away on June 12, 2010 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born on Dec. 13, 1928 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Agusta and Margaret (Gallagher) Lawhead.
Mrs. Matthew had been employed for twenty two years at the former Clearfield Cheese plant. She later retired from the Clearfield Area School District after ten years of service, while working in the cafeteria.
Mrs. Matthew was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Clearfield.
She was a loving, mother and grandmother, who was devoted to her family.
She is survived by a son and a daughter: Ronald L. Matthew and his wife Stephanie of Woodland and Barbara M. Barrett and her husband Rodney “Calvin” Barrett of Curwensville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Addleman of Clearfield. Also surviving is her companion, Enoch “Nick” Simcox of Clearfield.
Mrs. Matthew is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maurice L. Matthew, whom she married on January 21, 1947 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Niagara Falls, NY and who died on December 31, 1987; a son Randall L. Matthew and a sister, Katherine Peoples.
Funeral services will be held on June 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee and Pastor George Solley officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on June 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of services. .
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield, PA 16830 or to the Cherry Corner Baptist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
