MAHAFFEY – Work to replace a bridge on state Route 3001 (Bethlehem Hill Road) in the village of Mahaffey will begin on June 14. At that time, the bridge will be closed and two detours will be in place. The detour for cars will direct motorists to use SRs 36, 3016 in LaJose and 3023 in New Washington. Trucks will need to follow a detour that uses SRs 36, 3006 in Westover and 3001.
Crews will be working to replace the current truss bridge with a new, 2-span, concrete box beam bridge. The bridge is located on Route 3001 in the southern end of Mahaffey, near the Post Office.
Francis J. Palo, Inc. of Clarion is the contractor on this $2.2 million project. Work will also include reconstruction of the roadway approaches. PennDOT expects the new bridge to open to traffic by mid-October.
PennDOT advises drivers to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs and remain alert, patient and cautious through work zones and detours. For more information on roadway construction and maintenance operations, visit PennDOT’s website at www.dot.state.pa.us.
PennDOT also reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
