CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corporation graciously accepted a contribution from C. Alan Walker and Derek A. Walker to fund the first-ever 2010 Bucknell-Summer Internship Program. With this contribution, the CRC is able to offer a 13-Week Internship Program to Ashton Temchulla, who will be attending her senior year at Bucknell University in the fall with a major in Business Management.
During the course of Ashton’s internship, she will be receiving a full education of the Main Street Program and how community-development works, specifically in Clearfield. In addition, she has been assigned multiple projects to complete throughout this internship; for example, Ashton is currently working on a Downtown Inventory for the Main Street District of Clearfield.
Main Street Manager Kellie Truman stated, “We are grateful there are citizens like Alan and Derek Walker who are willing to step forward in our community and make a difference. Without this generous contribution, this program would be non-existent and the CRC would not have the opportunity to impact the youth of the Clearfield area.”
Derek Walker expressed, “For years, many of our young people have had to leave the area to find good family sustaining jobs. Now, thanks to the hard work of the CRC and the new opportunities the region has been blessed with, our best and brightest will be able to find those jobs right here. Let’s hope this program is just the start of what the region will be able to offer the next generation.”
Truman continued, “The timing is perfect to start the Bucknell-Summer Internship Program of the CRC. There is so much happening in our community. The YMCA has broken ground; the County began construction to bring more jobs, visitors and a facility large enough to host special events and tournaments back into downtown; we’re starting to see the impacts of Marcellus Shale in our region. The groundbreaking of the YMCA project proves when we all come together with the same vision, we can make an impact on our community. If we all come together to strive towards revitalizing our town, then our dreams can and will come true.”
Alan Walker stated, “Change is coming to Clearfield, and my hope is that our community can plan for this change and adapt accordingly so we control our own destiny. We are one of the few communities in Pennsylvania that will actually have the resources to reinvent itself.”
As Clearfield continues to grow, Ashton will have that same opportunity through her internship. Part of the CRC mission to impact the lives of those in our community, and it starts with one person at a time. Through this internship, the Walker’s have made it possible for the CRC to leave an impact in Ashton’s path, wherever that may take her in her professional career after college.
The CRC sincerely thanks C. Alan Walker and Derek A. Walker for their contribution, but more-so in his support of belief that the Clearfield Revitalization Corporation will have a positive impact to the community.
