CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corporation is announcing the second round of the Facade Improvement Grant Program. Applications are due to the CRC by June 21. The CRC will be granting a total of $15,000 in facade improvements this round based upon the guidelines, application process and impact to downtown Clearfield. The Facade Improvement Grant is a 50 percent matching grant of up to $5,000 to downtown businesses for exterior renovations.
The CRC Design Committee is responsible for implementing this improvement program. The Design Committee chairwoman is Katie Miknis, with committee members Steve Albert, Karen Miller and Peggy Durant.
Miknis emphasizes why this grant program is so important. “Improving the look and feel of our town can create positive and long lasting effects. We hope to get downtown Clearfield in top physical shape so it’s inviting to customers and visitors as well as restoring the historical character to many of the buildings.”
Albert and Miller show pride and value in the CRC Design Committee and the Grant Program. “We are committed to making Clearfield a more beautiful and prosperous town,” states Albert. ” Miknis is able to take a picture of your current property and with a simple sketch is able to show what it can be. This is a benefit of the CRC, as we want to help bring out the best in your storefront. We are lucky to have Katie’s expertise.”
Durant explains, “the projects submitted for consideration in the first round of grants followed the guidelines developed by the CRC but there was nothing “cookie-cutter” about them. Merchants and property owners presented plans that will enhance each property’s unique architectural history and personality. We are excited to see the impact on the downtown as the projects are completed.”
The first round in 2010 went extremely well for the CRC and Downtown Merchants, according to Main Street Manager Kellie Truman, with 14 grant applications and a total of $15,000 was distributed to seven downtown businesses. The CRC is anticipating the same if not more out come in this second round.
