Rendell Announces Investment of $1.2 Million for 10 Community Improvement Projects

HARRISBURG – Ten community improvement projects in eight counties will be completed while young workers enhance job skills through the investment of $1.2 million in Pennsylvania Conservation Corps, or PCC, projects Governor Edward G. Rendell announced today. The new projects will be completed between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.

“These projects provide hands-on training for young workers who are eager to learn,” Governor Rendell said. “Their service benefits residents and communities across the state, and they should be proud of their work and their lasting contribution to making a better Pennsylvania today – and for generations to come.”

Established in 1984, the PCC is one of the largest statewide conservation corps in the nation and has provided nearly 15,000 young people with jobs, career and technical training and educational funding.

Projects range from erosion control to wildlife-habitat improvement, trail restoration and the construction of community facilities, such as pavilions, playgrounds and athletic fields. Each project will employ a five-member PCC crew and one crew leader.
