Ruth I. Swauger, age 93, of South Eighth Street in DuBois, PA died May 10, 2010 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born on April 22, 1917 in Jordan Township, Clearfield County, PA. She was the daughter of the late Walter O. Bloom and Edna Mae (Johnson) Bloom.
On Oct. 4, 1937, she married Bruce C. Swauger. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1980.
She was a licensed practical nurse for 23 years at the Maple Avenue Hospital. She had also worked at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling. She also liked to walk and go bowling.
She is survived by her children: Mrs. Daniel (Dorothy) Hendricks of Rockton, PA, Carol Cloak of DuBois, PA, Mrs. John (Nancy) Murray of Duncannon, PA, C. Thomas Swauger and his wife, Nancy of DuBois, PA, James B. Swauger of Sabula, PA and Robert G. Swauger of Falls Creek, PA, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, David B. Swauger, one grandson, Charles T. Swauger, one brother, Oran Bloom, and two sisters, Pearl Carter and Elnora Broberg.
There will be a family viewing and funeral on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Viewing will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a funeral service at 8 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Newell officiating.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
