Dr. Louis J. “Skip” Cherry, MD, age 83, of Green Glenn Drive, DuBois, PA died on May 7, 2010 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Montefiore.
Born on Jan. 17, 1927 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late James V. and Mary (Colosi) Cherry.
On Nov. 25, 1961, he married Arcangela Mary Cherry. She survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II as a Pharmacist Mate, 3rd Class.
He was a surgeon at both the DuBois and Maple Have Hospitals and the DuBois Regional Medical Center from 1958 until 1990. During his career, he served as the Chief of Staff and the Chief of Surgery.
He was a graduate of Dickinson College and the University Of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the American College of Surgeons. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #519.
He collected Lionel Trains, and loved to garden. He was an avid Pitt Panther Football and Basketball Fan. He also loved to play bridge.
He is survived by 4 sons (Edward G. Cherry, Esquire and his wife Kirstan of Harrisburg, PA; Thomas J. Cherry, RN and his wife Christine of Wexford, PA; David J. Cherry and his wife Tracey of Evans City, PA; and Dr. James P. Cherry, MD and his wife Carolyn of DuBois, PA) he is also survived by 11 grandchildren and a brother (Francis L. Cherry and his wife Theresa of DuBois, PA)
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters (Grace and Josephine Cherry) and 6 brothers (Joseph Cherry; James Cherry; The Honorable John Cherry; Henry “Rocky” Cherry; Dr. George Cherry; and Edward Cherry,Esquire)
Visitation will be held on May 10 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.
A Scriptural wake service will be held on Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. from the Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 11 at 10 a.m. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Foradori as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
