HARRISBURG – To help residents explore the many alternative transportation options available across the state, the Department of Transportation recently launched the PACommutes Web site: www.PACommutes.com.
“This Web site offers a wide range of alternative ways to commute or travel through the state and makes it easy for them to adapt those methods into their lives,” said PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E. “We’ve brought together a vast amount of resources from PennDOT, other state agencies, transportation providers and even biking clubs to help people save money and help the environment.”
The PACommutes website offers commuters a one-stop shop for ways to save money on transportation, tips on “greening” their commute, and shows what public transportation options are available in each county. An array of topics are covered, including how to begin a biking or walking routine, how to set up a car or van pool, and what services are offered for older residents and people with disabilities.
The site includes a Match & Ride tool that helps people find car pool partners quickly and safely online. Also, informative service videos from transportation providers and other “how-to” resources are included.
“Many regional groups, clubs and service providers statewide serve as valuable transportation resources – we wanted to make sure that no matter where you live in Pennsylvania, you have access to this information,” Biehler said.
