George: Student Aid Deadline Applications Due May 1

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, reminds students and families that May 1 is the deadline to apply for key financial assistance for higher education.

“Families must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid – FAFSA – by May 1 not only for the need-based Pennsylvania State Grant but also for federal grants and loans and school-based assistance,” George said

The online FAFSA application may be submitted by new and renewing applicants at www.pheaa.org/fafsa. Once submitted, the Web site will direct applicants to information necessary for a Pennsylvania State Grant.

Students and families with questions about the FAFSA or State Grant Program also my call the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency toll free at 1-800 692-7392.

About 1,055 families in the 74th Legislative District, which encompasses most of Clearfield County, received State Grants in the 2009-10 academic year, averaging roughly $2,985.
