Bridge Work to Occur in Lumber City

CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is announcing a delay in the start of the bridge rehabilitation work on state Route 729 in Lumber City.  Closure will now take place on May 3.  On that day, PennDOT will close the Lumber City bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on SR 729 in Lumber City.  A detour will be in place.

Delaying the closure allows more time for residents to become aware of the closure and for the school district more time to plan bus route changes.  The detour will use SR’s 729, 969, 453, and 53.  Motorists are reminded to follow all detour signs and obey posted speed limits.

Rehabilitation work on the bridge includes bearing replacement, expansion dam replacement, and bridge deck repair.  PennDOT expects to re-open the bridge by July.

Swank Associated Companies of New Kensington is the contractor on this job.  This bridgework is part of a $2.2 million contract to rehabilitate seven bridges in Clearfield and Potter Counties.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
