John J. (Jack) Smith, age 83, of Knarr Street in DuBois, PA died Friday, April 2, 2010 at Christ the King Manor.
He was born on June 21, 1926 in DuBois, PA. He was the son of Charles W. and Catherine (Meehan) Smith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a radar mechanic during World War II.
On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Ellen Bowman. She preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1983.
He worked as a Foreman at McDowell Manufacturing Co. in DuBois, PA.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.
He was a freelance writer for area newspapers. He was the editor of the Audubon Society Regional Newsletter. He enjoyed aviation, oil painting and fly fishing.
He is survived by his children: Mrs. Scott (Nora) Carr of Columbus, OH, Marianne Dixon of DuBois, PA and Jennifer Smith of Falls Creek, PA, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation will be held on April 6 from 4-7 p.m. from the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held on April 6 at 3:45 p.m. from the funeral home.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service on April 7 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 7 at 10 a.m. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will in St. Catherine’s Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the member of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
