DUBOIS – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced that charges have been filed against a DuBois man for the burglary of Dan’s Pro Shop.
Shaw identified the defendant as Corey Davis Shenkle, age 21, of East Park Avenue, DuBois.
On March 28 Sergeant Kris Kruzelak, of the Sandy Township Police Department, filed a criminal complaint charging Shenkle with: 1) burglary; 2) theft by unlawful taking; 3) criminal mischief; and 4) theft from a motor vehicle.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Kruzelak states that the Sandy Township Police were called to Dan’s Pro Shop for a burglary and theft of handguns. Upon arrival, officers determined that the business had be entered by forcibly opening a side door. Also observed at the scene was a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, that had been stolen earlier in the morning. Items of merchandise and cash were taken from the business, as well as three hand-guns, including a Kimbar .45 caliber, Ruger .380 caliber, and Thompson Center . 22 caliber.
On March 27, officers located Shenkle wearing a Carhart Jacket identical to one stolen from Dan’s Pro Shop. Shenkle was assisted with the burglary by a 17-year-old.
Through further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle used in the burglary was stolen from a Highland Street residence in DuBois City. Located in the Vehicle were approximately five pieces of jewelry, a Sony camera, and an I-Pod Touch.
Shenkle was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge James Hawkins, who set Shenkle’s bail at $50,000.00. Hawkins scheduled Shenkle for a preliminary hearing to occur on April 2.
Shenkle remains incarcerated in the Clearfield County Jail.
The Sandy Township Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the DuBois City Police, Reynoldsville Borough Police, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Shaw anticipates that a Juvenile Petition will be filed in the near future charging the juvenile involved with the case. The juvenile is currently being held at a juvenile detention center.
Shaw stated that, “The Sandy Township Police Department conducted a comprehensive investigation to solve this crime as quickly as possible”. Shaw reported that “this case was the result of hard police work and great cooperation between departments”. Shaw was pleased that this crime was able to be resolved in a timely manner.
