Obituary Notice: Lenore Wright Davidson

Lenore Wright Davidson, 97 of Curwensville, died Tuesday at Clearfield Hospital.

Born April 20, 1912 in Curwensville, she was the daughter of Richard M. and Edith (Haley) Wright.  On July 19, 1941, she married Robert W. Davidson, who died Jan. 13, 1987.

Mrs. Davidson graduated from Indiana Normal School (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania) in 1935 and taught elementary grades from 1935 until 1954, when she retired from teaching full time.  She later returned as a substitute teacher for 10 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church and Progressors Sunday School class.  She served on the Administrative Board of the church, was a member of the United Methodist Women and received an award for her services as Church Historian. 

She was also a member of the Curwensville Pike Township Historical Society.  Mrs. Davidson was involved in numerous other volunteer and charitable causes. 

She launched the local March of Dimes effort in Curwensville, was a member of the Curwensville Women’s Club since 1938 and an American Cancer Society volunteer for 10 years.

In 1978, the Curwensville Rotary Club presented her with the Outstanding Citizen Award.

She was publicly recognized for her efforts to make the Curwensville Public Library a reality in 1968.  Senator John R. Wozniak, of Harrisburg, presented a citation for her dedication to bringing a permanent library to her community and for the many years that she volunteered at the Curwensville Public Library.

Mrs. Davidson is survived by her son, R. Brad Davidson, his wife, Rebecca Ross, and her grandson, Robert Ross Davidson.  Also surviving are her nephew, John Wright and his wife, Deb, and her nieces, Edie Clowers and her husband, Bob and Mimi Maggard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Davidson, and her daughter, Joette Davidson.  In addition, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Wright and his wife Laura; her brother Robert Wright and his wife, Betty; and her brother Kenneth and his wife, Grace; her half brothers, Russell Wright and Carroll Wright, and half sisters, Ethel Wright and Stella Eley. 

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, State

Street, Curwensville, from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 – 11 p.m. Saturday.

The Rev. Alison W. Grove will officiate at funeral services to be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
