DUBOIS – A law group will soon be looking into a cable franchise agreement for the City of DuBois.

At Monday night’s meeting, council member Randy Schmidt made the motion to enter into agreement with Cohen Law Group in order to consider the proposal for cable franchise renewal. Cohen Law Group is a law firm that specializes in cable franchise agreements.  After checking around with other cities, Randy Schimdt found the Cohen Law group to be highly recommended.

The city is currently in an agreement with Comcast.

Solicitor Toni Cherry said that they need to be very specific in their negotiations.  Her concerns are for the citizens who subscribe to cable starting with a certain number of channels for a certain price.  Over time, the number of channels decreases but the cost of cable increases.  She wants to ensure that residents do not see a decrease in their channels.

According to Cherry, “Most of the people in DuBois are very upset over the fact that their bills have gone up and the product they are receiving has been minimized.  These are the complaints we are getting from citizens.”

John “Herm” Suplizio stressed that council was not renewing their contract but that they are hiring a law firm to look into and negotiate the cable franchise agreement.
