Tarlton A. “Sonny” Peacock, 87, of Clearfield, passed away on March 19 at his residence.
Born on March 22, 1922 in Coalport, he was the son of Robert and Marian (Waddell) Peacock.
Mr. Peacock was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Clearfield.
He was a proud World War II Army veteran, serving at Pearl Harbor. He attended many veteran functions in the surrounding areas.
Mr. Peacock was a member of the Curwensville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 842, Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post 6, Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 314 of Clearfield, and a life-long member of the Lawrence Twp. volunteer fire company.
He was employed at Harbison Walker Machine Shop, Harmon Taylor Sawmill and Clearfield Machine Shop.
Mr. Peacock is survived by his wife, the former Ida Jean Gearhart, whom he wed on Nov. 21, 1945 in Curwensville. He is also survived by his son Larry and his wife Lynne of Olanta; daughter Helen Lingle and her husband, Marvin, of Clearfield; six grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Peacock, Matthew (Janette) Peacock, Randy (Kearstin) Peacock, Kimberly (John) Castina, Marvin (Betsy) Lingle, Jr., and Chad (Stephanie) Lingle; also seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; ten brothers, George, Robert, Edward, Merle, Earl, Cortland, Roy, Clarence, Elmer and Marion; three sisters, Kathryn, Geraldine and Emily; also two infant grandchildren, Douglas Peacock and Mark Lingle. Mr. Peacock was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield, on Monday from 5 – 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10 – 11 a.m. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Glenn A. Williams officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Graveside military honors will be accorded by area members of the Clearfield Area Honor Guard from the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785.
