County Accepting Proposals for Multi-Service Center

CLEARFIELD – With the Gray Battery building project moving forward, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved two action items that may spell the end of the county’s ownership of the Multi-Service Center.

The Multi-Service Center is on Leonard Street in Lawrence Township. The county houses some county departments there and rents office space to other entities. With the county looking to bring its offices closer together, the commissioners approved purchasing the former Gray Batter building on East Locust Street to use for those offices.

The commissioners said they would like the proposals to be in written form. Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen said they will work to answer any questions a potential buyer might have about the building.

Commissioner Mark McCracken said they would also like to know what use the potential buyer has for the lot.

“We want to know … what use people want,” said McCracken. The commissioners noted that some of the tenants would like to continue renting there.

As part of the process, the commissioners also approved getting the building appraised. In 1989 the building appraised for roughly $700,000.
