Obituary Notice: Edward L. Preston

Edward L. Preston, age 77, of Piney Lane, Rockton, PA, formerly of Brockway, PA, died on March 8 at his residence.

He was born on November 23, 1932 in Summerville, PA.  He was the son of the late Charles Preston and Christina (Overbeck) Preston.

He graduated from Brockway Area High School in 1952.

He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army.

He married Ruth J. Alleman Preston in Reynoldsville on November 22, 1958.  She survives.

He was a member of the Rockton Volunteer Fire Department, was a lifetime member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a member of the American Legion Post #0392 in Reynoldsville, Sandy Hose Co. # 1 Fireman’s Club, the Horton Sportsman Club, The Falls Creek Eagles Aerie 965; The Independent, Political, & Social Club, the Army-Navy Club in Brockway, the Olympic Athletic Club, and the Brockway Sons of Italy.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed playing cards, and selling tickets for many non profit organizations.

He retired from Stackpole Carbon in St. Mary’s after 42 years of service.

He is survived by 4 daughters (Mrs. James T. (Sallie Ann) Bersey of Warner Robbins, GA; Mrs. Jerry (Valerie) Zimmerman of Brookville, PA; Mrs. Samuel (Patricia) Marrara of Rockton, PA; and Mrs. Clyde C. (Shirley) Mosier of Hampton,VA) a son (Mr. Stephen Preston and his wife Sandra of Brockway, PA)  three sisters (Rachel Grubbs of Brockway, PA, Martha Keown of Burlington WI, and Margaret Runyan of New Brighten, PA) two brothers (Clifford Preston of Munro Township, NJ and John Preston of Dryville, VA) and 11 Grandchildren (Stephen Bersey, Kimberly Talbert, Tricia Fields, Jarvo Vincent, Jessica Reid, Michael Marrara, Douglas Mosier, Stacey Mosier, Grace Preston, Dessie Preston, and Brooke Preston) and 6 great grandchildren ( Payton Reid, Regan Reid, Landon Marrara, Dylan Marrara, Brittney Fields, and Jackson Bersey)

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers (Charles and William Preston.)

Visitation will be held on March 10 from 2-8 p.m. from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on March 11 at 10 a.m. from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home with the Rev. Claire Lundberg officiating.

Burial will be held in Morningside Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
