Thirteen Bison Grapplers Headed to Northwest AAA Regionals

Altoona — Hoping to build off of the momentum started by winning the District 9 Championships in dramatic fashion last weekend in Clarion, 13 Clearfield Bison wrestlers will head to the Altoona Area High School Field House in hopes of reaching Hershey for the PIAA Championships.

The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to The Giant Center in Hershey next week. The 12-man bracket in each weight class at Altoona is made up of the top three wrestlers from District 6, the top two from District 8, the top three from District 9, and the top four from District 10.

Each of the district champions, including six from Clearfield, will receive a bye into Friday night’s 7:15 PM quarterfinal round.

The seven wrestlers from Clearfield that have to compete in the tournament’s preliminary round at 5:00 PM Friday and their first round opponent:

Losers of their first match will be forced into the first round of consolations on Friday night at approximately 9:15.

Quarterfinal winners will wrestle in the semifinals at noon on Saturday.

Round two of the consolations will also take place at noon with the third round of consies taking place at approximately 2:30.

The consy finals for third place, usually the most entertaining round of the whole weekend, takes place at 5:30.

The “Parade of Champions” will take place at 6:30 with the Championship Finals to begin shortly thereafter.
