DUBOIS – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr. announced today that charges have been filed against a Brockway man for a stabbing incident that occurred in DuBois City.

Shaw identified the defendant as Howard J. Getz, age 40, of Fifth Ave. in Brockway.

The criminal complaint, filed by Officer Randy Young of the DuBois City Police, charges Getz with: criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal trespass, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Randy Young states that on Jan 3, at approximately 1:58 am, officers from the DuBois City Police Department were dispatched to the DRMC West hospital for a report of an assault victim seeking treatment for his injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, officers observed the victim with stab wounds. The victim reported that he was stabbed multiple times while at the East Side Sports Bar in DuBois City.

The affidavit further provides that officers traveled to the East Side Sports Bar and learned that a man named “Howie” got into an argument with the victim and then displayed a knife. After being asked to leave the bar, “Howie” stabbed the victim and fled the scene. DuBois City Police Officers with the assistance of the Brockway Police Department located Getz at a residence within Brockway Borough. Getz was taken into custody without further incident.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 9.

Shaw stated that “he was pleased with the rapid response of the DuBois City Police Department to locate Getz”. This type of behavior is troubling and “the DuBois City Police acted swiftly to identify and apprehend Getz”.
